Heart Of A Soldier
When I was young they gave me a gun
And said..
We're gonna make a Man out of yah..Teach yah to kill
"Love your country" they filled my head
I was to be on a grand adventure ..of life or death
Look after your buddies..
Be prepared to die for Your country
Learn The disciplines of War
Fight the fight for Peace..
So I packed up my sack ..got onto the track
And into the fighting I went
Me mate Billy was the first to go.
Shot off his head with one fateful blow
Then Frank died in me arms..bled to death
I was so mad..I wanted to kill everybody
Sergeant said save it for the battle son
So I killed the enemy one by one..
I now stand on the parade ground weary
They are about give me a medal
But in my heart I have a niggling query
What the hell is going on
I killed and I shot my way back
I'm standing here but Peace was not won
And the world was not a safe place to be
So what did I achieve..
"For Duty to your country I give this medal"
Back in The barracks I started to cry
I asked the Sergeant why don’t I feel so proud
Why do I feel so sick , so tired, so confused
He laughed and said Harden up son
The Battle for Peace will go on and on
I thought of me mates Billy and Frank
Can you tell me I cried why had they died
And yah Know what..
He just shrugged his shoulders..
So here I am in a special peoples home
A place for all those bewildered
But I never forget that war ain't over yet
And wondered how fruitless it was
But what was the worst and made my head burst
Is the Brass said "That’s Just because"
But they're still killing and dying out there and nobody cares
So what the hell's going on with this world
I stand up erect and the bullets deflect
And I raise my eyes to the flag
Is it a farce and the whole things a lie
We kill for a piece of Old colored worthless rag
Its symbol is grand but death its ultimate demand
So please everybody..can we just see some reason
So much Blood has been spilt..Sick to the hilt
And ...Ignorance is just another season
