Some say hatred is based on fear.
I tend to find it’s based on observation.

I find that hatred is based on emotion. Observation stokes the irrational side of the brain which generates the extreme emotional response of hatred.

most of the time i think hatred can be based on prejudices that people have had since childhood and never let it go. hatred may come from closed mindedness[is that a word?] meaning that they aren't open to anything new, or modern. that's what i think.

If hatred's based on fear what's fear based on?
I think hatred is based on... personality. Some people don't hate much at all. Maybe perception over observation.

hatred and fear are both based on not knowing enough about something. people dont like/fear what is different because difference threatens you. youve only got to watch cool runnings to figure that out :P

Emotions are a wise chain-reaction, one triggering another. Sorta like when a womans pregnant but not as volitile.
I can't see hatred a trigger of fear, maybe in some cases which become complex to bother with. meh..

This is also true, though i think most of the time i think hatred will stem from experiences that people may have had in the past or learning of their history and heritage [like prejudices, the hollocast, and racial persecutions] may come into play when it comes to hatred sometimes. or it could just down right be stupidity.

Fear is based on instincts. To protect oneself from danger or harm.
the monkey example is a great one. A monkey in a cage as observed by us human beings. You take the money away, then you bring it back once you have placed a snake nearby. The money, upon seeing the snake will go insane and back away as much as it possibly could.
This fear is an instinct that has been passed down for generations with monkies. The monkey doesn't consiousley know that the snake is dangerous, but still it acts upon this instinct to fear it.
We will fear things we don't know, through instinct, and then we'll fear things we do understand, through knowledge.
You could also argue that some people don't fear the things that they perhaps should. A variation which you'll find in everything.
also Phobias! Quite the thing.
Hatred is an emotion, much like happiness is. When you see something that makes you happy, you will act on it with laugther or a pleasant smile. If you find something that makes you angry, you become agressive and addrenaline will flow through you. Hatred is a severe form of anger, which is a prolonged version that doesn't die. What causes it, will vary from person to person.
I don't think it's based on fear at all. You can't assume that when someone is to hate something, it means that they also fear it. I hate things I don't fear. I would go with it being based on who a person is, what their characteristics are and how open minded they may be.
Like someone already said, it could be made into a complex evaluation of the whole meaning, which I won't bother to get into.
