Marie Hammer is a pen name. Marie is my middle name and Hammer my mothers maiden name and, also, the last name of my uncle, who had one of the biggest impacts on my life.
After his death, I went through all the stages of grief, you can see them in my poems (Jealous Fruit is the best), it was the first death that impacted me deeply. There was a period of time I was physically ill.
I will also publish poems about my experience with a former roommate who chose to abuse me... physically, mentally and emotionally.
On a lighter note, I've been writing poems, prose and short stories since before the fifth grade, but, I remember fifth grade specifically because that was my first 'hard' year (socially) and I was constantly getting yell at for being caught writing when I should be taking notes or reading some of the stories (ugh.. complete dribble) they forced us to read.
I have come here because I am close to be ready to start the process of getting published and I want to network and learn and be inspired by the other poets around me. I will repost this on my profile.
