Well at the time of writing:
1) Mulholland Drive (David Lynch, 2001)
2) Pan's Labyrinth (Del Toro, 2006)
3) The Truman Show (Peter Weir, 1998)
But I can be incredibly fluid about the whole thing.
I'm also a big fan of Lost Highway (also David Lynch), and many many Hitchcock films.

It's those Brazilian movies... they get me every time. What's so amazing about that movie is the little group of boys that go around stealing are actually street kids from the slums of Brazil. Oh and I should have given an honorable mention to "He was a quiet man", amazing film.

3 is such a low-life digit.
I'd say: Dogville,
Waking life
and I'm not there.
(and because I think so poorly of 3, I'm adding The dreamers.)

Really, anything Kubrick or Lynch have done. Also Martin Scorsese.
And Scorsese' Taxi Driver obviously, as anyone would have guessed.

À bout de souffle (Breathless) - Jean-Luc Goddard
Ikiru (To Live) - Akira Kurosawa
Smultronstallet (Wild Strawberries) - Ingmar Bergman
But if I was talking about experimental film:
Scorpio Rising - Kenneth Anger
Jabberwocky - Jan Svankmajer
Mothlight - Stan Brakhage

Very interesting film taste, Johnny. Bergman, Kurosawa and Goddard are all incredible directors. I haven't seen Jabberwocky or Mothlight but Scorpio Rising I have. I've seen most Kenneth Anger films. I guess my favourite would have to be Fireworks or Invocation of My Demon Brother, with the original Mick Jagger composition.

Jabberwocky
Mothlight
And if I had a second favorite film by Anger, it's probably Rabbit's Moon.

I'll get around to watching those, and yes, Rabbit's Moon is also a good one. Which version do you prefer?

A bout de souffle - Godard
The Good, the Bad, the Ugly - Leone
La meglio gioventu' (The Best of Youth) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0346336/) - Giordana
I tried to get a bit of variation in here. The first and second are epics, LMG is 6 hours long, 2 x 3 hour parts, but don't let that devalue it. It is the bildungsroman (but in film form!) to end all bildungsroman. Tracing 2 brothers from the 60s to the 2000s, on their journey from Rome, through Italy (http://www.wimdu.co.uk/rome) and life. It really is a fantastic film that is beautifully made and definitely worth viewing if you can find a copy.

It changes all the time but I really like Taken and Unknown with Liam Neeson.
