"Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman; May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, poet, and painter. He has been a major figure in music for five decades. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s when he was an informal chronicler, and an apparently reluctant figurehead, of social unrest. Though he is well-known for revolutionizing perceptions of the limits of popular music in 1965 with the six-minute single "Like a Rolling Stone," a number of his earlier songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" became anthems for the US civil rights and anti-war movements. Dylan performs with guitar, keyboards, and harmonica. His accomplishments as a recording artist and performer have been central to his career, but his greatest contribution is generally considered to be his songwriting." ***
Please, discuss Bob Dylan - be it his music and lyrics or his effect on our lives.
One of my favourite songs must be 'Masters of war'.

He made some amazing music in the 60's. That's about it really. Starting from Nashville Skyline his career just got boring and very bad. I'm glad that I managed to see him live in 2007.

I agree on some level. His lyrics in the 60's and early 70's were amazing and original. But I do prefer his voice now he is 70 years of age.
I have a friend who saw Dylan when he turned electric. Most people shouted 'Judice' and walked out of the hall, but my friend actually stayed and finished listening to his new take on electric protest music.
What song would be your favourite, Henry?

I think the people that got upset at Bob Dylan because he suddenly started playing electric music are very close-minded and ignorant themselves. I watched a lot of documentaries on Bob Dylan and those people seriously always make me laugh.
As for my favourite song, I'm not really sure, it tends to change. I'd have to say Desolation Row though.

Well I must admit that when I heard his electric songs -after listening intently to his early stuff- it took me a while to get used to it, and eventually to love it.

Good song choice indeed. Do you like 'Dignity'?

Maybe it's different for me considering the first Dylan album I've listened to was Highway 61 Revisited.

I've actually never heard that song. Just google'd it quickly, first released on 'Greatest Hits Volume 3 in 1994.' Explains why I've never heard it, I'll give it a listen when I can.

That is an accomplished album. I have most of his albums, and still I choose to listen to Highway 61 revisited. His lyrics on this album are still very poetical, and full of realism I feel.

I like that version - but he has also done a version on his bootleg series, which I must say I prefer. Like I said, his voice now is much better than when he was a younger singer.
I was thinking of doing a tribute poem to Dylan - any thoughts?

A while ago I was planning to do a short film based on the story of 'The Ballad of Frankie Lee And Judas Priest' but I've never gotten around to that unfortunately. As for doing a poem, I don't really know, it's a hard one. You could really start from any direction. You say you prefer his voice now that he is older, that might be an idea.

EDIT: Everytime I post: it results in a double post. My net is acting weird, maybe I should stop posting when it is in this state.

Perhaps using his most well known song titles, and using them within a poem about his life. Like you said - it is a hard one...I'll let you know if I get any where with it.
Did you know Bob Dylan had a motorcycle accident, and had to learn the guitar all over again? Possibly the reason why his music went a little off during the 80's....?

Yeah, isn't that also a big reason on why he became a Christian?

That's new to me...I must read that biography I bought a while back.
Mind you, even on his first album he used to sing about Jesus.

Jakob Dylan made a fantastic first album, but his second album has failed him. There are only two songs I like on his second album. Yet I love every song on his first.
