I love classical music with a passion, and have been to a few concerts and operas over the years. I have been to the Proms (not the Last Night), and some classical concerts. However opera is my real favourite, amongst the the ones I've seen so far are; El Nino, by John Adams; Der Rosen Kavalier, by Strauss; Peter Grimes, by Britten; and Puccini's Madam Butterfly. Ahead of me this year I have; The Damnation of Faust, by Berlioz (This is to be directed by Terry Gillam of Monty Python fame, apparently his debut opera.) Then later I have; A Midsummer Night's Dream, by Britten. At the end of the year I've booked; The Nutcracker Ballet.

I was wondering what forum members make classical music, and especially opera?

Well... I love many types of music, but I find some opera a little painful on the ears. The very high notes (sorry, not very technical!) sound like screaming to me, all too reminiscent of my own physical pain.

I like Faure's Requiem too; also Dvorak's and Durufle's. I like to feel serene. But I also like to get excited to Stravinsky and some Gershwin.

I listen to any style of music, so I've got no problem with opera.

purcell, henry . .. dido and aeneus (kathleen ferrier// or janet baker)

opera is not my fave. (was raised very strictly. sunday morning: blasting of tosca meant: get up and clean the house .. . .so as you can tell? bad association. we were not allowed to have anything other than classical music in the house, other than the beatles)

despite all that . . .. georges enesco, faure, hindemyth, chopin, vivaldi, H. Wieniawski, prokofiev, taffanel, teleman, manuel de falla, misa flamenca, rodrigo, any thing chamber music . . .chamber music yes yes yes, satee, bach, stravinsky, shoeburt and shoeman, corelli and on and on and on so much good stuff (sorry spelling is horrid) . . . ok so dont forget handel (martin in the fields//duetche grammaphone)

love anything gregorian chant . .. down to bare bone . . . .in ecco chamber

I don't make music at all, but
I love the music. My favorite singers are Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman
They both give a certain feeling to music.

My favorites are:
Canto della Tierra-Andrea Bocelli
Join me- Sarah Brightman & Gregorian Masters

It is not strange to love both Opera and Metal, they use basically
some of the same styles and both are supposed to be bombastic
of style. Most metallovers like opera aswel.
