Hello,
I'm a psychology major working on developing a study of looking at how the mood of a poem effects what the reader thinks about it.
I'm trying to find poetry that conveys sad moods, happy moods, and ambiguous moods. I'm having trouble figuring out where to start in finding poets that convey specific moods in their poems, but aren't too well known (i.e. Poe would not work in this study). I've found a lot of poetry where the reader is told what to feel, but I'm looking for poems that make you feel sad because they describe a sad topic, such as the death of a loved one. I'm having a lot of trouble finding poems that convey happy emotion, but don't have overtones of regret. For ambiguous poems, I'm looking for poems that are more descriptive in nature and could possibly describe historical events.
I was wondering if you had any suggestions of poets and possibly specific poems that are especially emotionally salient. I would appreciate any suggestions that you might have! I need poetry that has been published, but it doesn't matter where it was published. Thanks!
