Just wondering how everyone here writes. Like, do you get a sudden spark of creativity and roll with it? Do you carefully plan out all of your words and stanza? Do you combine both? Do you write from the heart and edit later with the head? etc. etc.

I usually have to feel a surge of emotion about something first. I couldn't write to order. I then let my ideas spill out and arrange them as I think best, but always try for a thoughtful ending

i agree with petals here..a combination of ways and means :)
..some pieces seem to write themselves in minutes/hours..and there are some i try to bend to my will but they just wont give..one i have been rewriting for about 2 years!

i usually get an idea and run with it, then add coherence later - i always like to leave it pretty open, i often defamiliarise so that the reader has to decide for themselves what motivated me to write
I think i can mix it up a bit, I like to wait for something to inspire though, creativity is something that flows, I'm not a big fan of forcing it, just like with my music, definitely harder to force it but structured stuff can work for me
