View Full Version : Which poems do you read here?

No doubt some of you manage to read every poem that gets posted here, but I admit that I don't.

I'm curious as to how other people choose which poems to read. I tend to browse through the newest posts and read those with a title that catches my attention. I've been here a while now, so I also check through occasionally to see what certain members have posted whose poems have interested me before.

Every now and again I'll also have a general browse around to see what I've missed.

Do others have a similar approach, or do you have a better way of finding poems to read here?

I can't read everything either but I try to read as much as I can. My strategies are these (which seem to be a lot like yours);

1. Go to Quick Links (top right) -> Today's Posts -> Read through what appears to be interesting (because of the title/member/category/uncommented poem)

or

2. Quick Links -> Mark Forums Read -> Pick a random subforum under Poetry Showcase and start reading

or

3. Go to a known or unknown member's profile page by clicking on their names -> Statistics -> Find all threads started by ... and start reading.

An interesting title, a new poem by someone who writes good poems, new members, friends, my mood and total randomness decides what poems I read. Sometimes I've clicked on something and it has been really long and then I haven't felt like reading through it all. On the other hand length doesn't necessarily put me off. If it's in a competition and I'm intending to vote, I read through all posts no matter what length, and if it's something that pulls me in I'll continue reading. But I can say one thing; I read waaaaay much more than I comment on.

eeekk!!
read every poem!
..much like you two i read in the same way and as much as i can..unfortunately sometimes i read and dont have time to comment-and then when i come back, cannot find a particular poem or remember who its by..i do try to write things down..but lose pieces of paper..and -oh well..you get the idea! lol! :(

is there some method on the forum of saving others poems so that i could read later..i may well have missed it!
*looks hopeful :) *

@dearbastet: I suppose you could under Thread Tools subscribe to a thread, and then later on go to subscribed threads on your user control panel...but that's all I can think of...perhaps a mod could clarify things?

Ah yes, I know about that problem all too well...need to get more organized myself...maybe, hopefully, probably one day

I honestly read every poem that appears and comment on the ones I like, awarding reputation

to be honest, i cant think of any other way to keep track of poems other than subscribing to them... but i have to admit that i've never done so.

personally, i have very, very limited time on the forums, meaning most time i spend on here is dedicated to admin-type stuff, and i feel HORRIBLE for it because i think i should be reading more. if i've read a poem, i'll comment on it, so that gives you a rough idea of how much poetry on here i get to read. which is not a lot, though if i have the time (ie, during holidays/weekends) i DO read and comment more.

Don't feel horrible dear, you have to do what you have to do...

Before my computer decided to visit cyber heaven, I read every poem.
Whilst I had computer woes, I only read those that looked interesting. Going to "Today's Posts"
Now that I am back and all is good, I will start reading them again... But like Henry P, I only comment on the ones that I like.:)

That's what I normally do - I tend to favour poems with interesting titles and/or no replies, though I like to check out a couple of random threads as well, just to keep in shape :D

I feel really bad but I hardly ever comment on stuff... i dunno... I don't have anything to say about depression, or killing yourself, or being in love or angels or demons or vampires, or bad structure. I miss rantingpete, I really do. I love realistic bleak social commentary and I don't like 95% of stuff I read. I'm sorry guys it's pretty wack.

Hi, is there no brave hearts out there.
I'm in the dark as why folk only comment to no replies.
The only time, and by the way I use same ways as choosing
As the few who have mentioned.
When I feel I can't reply
because I'm not educated to have under stood all the words
and to lazy to go to the dictionary
Other times I just don't know how to express.
When folk comment on what I write
I follow the path
Where all there poetry is.
See what topics they write
come back another day and do some reading.
It works well / for I.

- Thanks Deedah, I've only just noticed this thread and your kind comments. I was away for a year but came back in May.

I read almost every poem on the forum. I click on new posts whenever I log on. Sometimes I may not finish reading every poem. I comment on those poems that 'move' me in one way or another.
