Anyone here play an instrument? I myself do, I play bass guitar and 6-string guitar. I first started playing 3 years ago when I was working at a tacobell and across the street was a music store. I really wanted to play bass, so after the late shift on a tuesday night. I went dumpster diving, and at the very bottom of a pile of boxes I found a squire strat. The headstock was busted and the pickups long gone. So I took it to a freind of mine to see if he could fix the head stock. He did, so after working and saving up I went into the music store and got new pickups, a amp, strings and a cable. That night I stayed up strumming and pretty much just enjoying the guitar. About 3 months after that I saved everypenny I could to buy a Gretch ripoff (seriousley no label on headstock or a serial #). It was the best 300 dollars I ever blew.

Rate now I still have both guitars, with a squire acustic some kid at school threw away because he killed the bridge while trying to look cool in class. I get commented on how ugly my instruments are, but don't pay much attention to them because I know they sound and preform even better than almost every other guitar I have played. (I go around stores acting like I'm might buy guitars just so I can give them a test drive)

I'm still pretty stoked I have them.

piano (started when i was like, 5 or so, it's my first instrument and also the one i love the most), guitar (started when i was about 14), and percussion -- everything except drumkit, but mostly i play tuned stuff, like bells and timpani and so on, because the other percussionist in the orchestra i'm in cannot read sheet music!!

the guitar i have is a steel string acoustic cort. it was a fairly cheap birthday pressie but good quality for its price. i may or may not get another one eventually but i dont really need it at the moment, my current one suits me fine. tho admittedly, i need new strings and am as usual too lazy to get them.

I play guitar. I was in a band 20 years ago called 'The Big Wednesday'. We didn't get anywhere but it was the best years of my life. I still write and record when I get the time.

Smorzando your suppose to change strings every 2 weeks. I don't, but I do it monthly for my guitars. Only 2 times a year for my bass.

I kept my last set of strings for about a year or so. While that is probably too long, it doesn't matter too much to me and every 2 weeks is ridiculous unless you are playing professionally. You can also take them off and clean them which apparently helps.

I change my strings every time that one of them breaks

nah, two weeks is for pros. i'm far from pro. if i played guitar as much as i played piano, then yeah. otherwise no. i try to change them every 6-8 weeks but then again i'm lazy and i'm poor so it doesnt happen. i don't even tune my piano as often as i should and i use that every day. but a piano tuning costs more than guitar strings.

Just started playing bass guitar a few days ago. I'm not lookin' to do anything big with my playing, just create an emotional experience for myself when I get better. I've always loved the piano too, but never played. Last time I touched one was a few years ago at church i just sat down afterwards at it and started freestyling, my uncle thought I played piano so I guess I didn't do terrible xD. I have no money for lessons, or a piano for that matter, so it will remain simply a desire for the time being.

I play acoustic guitar and write my own songs, I should change my strings a lot more often :) especially as I play live venues every now and then, I also like to dabble in some light percussion...but im no drummer :)

I've been playing bass guitar for about 7 months now. I'd say I'm transitioning between a beginner and intermediate.

I started playing the piano when I was 4, just tinkering around. My dad had a go at teaching me when I was a teenager, but I proved a sulky and irritating pupil.

I also played the descant recorder throughout school and later the clarinet. Dad and I went to Dartington a couple of times, but I found it a bit intense!

Arthritis has put a bit of a stop to music making, but I love to whistle along to the radio and make up tunes in my head. Recently I composed a tune for 'The Owl and the Pussy Cat'. My physio reckons it wouldn't hurt to get a small electronic keyboard. Can anyone recommend a particular model?

Guitar, for quite a few years. Can't seem to start a band though, since everybody in Iowa is obsessed with shit metal bands.
